LPNAA News Letter ~ April 2013

CHATTER

Licensed Practical Nurses Association of Alabama

News Letter   ~   April 2013

Hello Fellow LPN's,

Chapter 5 started this new year off with illness of several members, including our speaker, so we cancelled the meeting and had two speakers in February.  Our speakers were fantastic.

Our education chair, Melissa Bullard, has done a great job in obtaining speakers for the whole year.  Melissa, as most of you know, is on the ABN representing the LPN's.  We are proud to announce to all of you that she was chosen to be secretary of the ABN.  Congrats Melissa.

Janett Blackwood, LPNAA's new vice president, and I have been busy helping with this years convention.  Chapter 3 of Montgomery is hosting this event, so we went to Montgomery to help them with their endeavor.  We have all of the items and bags to make up the goody bags for the educators.  I have sent them to Joyce Hardy and members of Chapter 6 to fill and be responsible for.  Our items for the Alabama and Auburn basket raffle are almost completed, so don't forget to bring some extra money for tickets.  Janett is working hard on the Chatter News Letter and will go out late this week with your call to convention forms.

P.J. Blackmon will be helping with registration again this year for the Annual Lucy Caddell Alzheimer's Confrence.  If any of you can make it, this is one of the most wonderful confrences you can attend.  Very beneficial for those that work with Alzheimer's or has family with Alzheimer's.

Hope to see all of you at our May convention.

                                                                        Blessings,

                                                                        Patsy Cathcart, LPN

Greetings from the Vice President's desk:

I am honored to become the LPNAA Vice President.  There is no way that I can fill Maggie's shoes. I don't have Maggie's experience or her knowledge.  So with your help and God's wisdom I am willing to do the best I can.  I am willing to consider your input in getting the Chatter out.  Also any ideas on building membership is welcomed.

It is time to be planning this years convention.  It will be in May this year to co-inside with nurses week.

For articles to be included in the Chatter or to contact, I can be reached at:

Secretary's message

Chapter 6 was so happy to see all who were able to attend the January 19th, 2013 Board Meeting.  I pray all are doing well.  I appreciate all the prayers and cards during the illness and death of my sister.  I am sorry I haven't gotten the minutes out, but will soon.

Let us all work hard and pray we can build our Association up this year.

Hope to see all of you at the March 9th Board Meeting at Isaiah's Restaurant in Montgomery.

God Bless,

Joyce Hardy

Chapter 5
Decatur, AL

Greetings from Chapter 5, Decatur, AL
Chapter 5 has had a full year and great speakers for 2012.  Our education chair, Melissa Bullard, has a full schedule for us for 2013.  Everyone is looking forward to learn from these speakers.
Melissa was re-appointed to the ABN for a second term.  We also want to congratulate her on being selected as secretary for the board.  Way to go Melissa.
We missed seeing many of you at our January board meeting.  Several were sick, had deaths in your families or had to work.  Hope things are looking up for all of us and all of you.
Due to bad weather our chapter postponed our Christmas get together.
We are working hard on our end for the convention.  Janett Blackwood and I went to Montgomery to meet with some of Chapter 3 members to help with the over all status of convention plans.  We had a good time and progress was made.  Looks like Chapter 3 has everything under control.
We plan on selecting our local LPN of the year at our March meeting.  And have her represent chapter 5 at the convention.

Chapter 8
Dothan, AL

Hello Fellow LPNAA Members,
I hope everyone had a nice holiday with their loved ones.
We had a small fundraiser before Christmas to start building back up.  We are a small group, but dedicated.  We enjoy our meetings once a month.  It is not just about receiving contact hours.  It is about learning something new, visiting with friends, finding out anything new with the Alabama Board of Nursing as well.  It is usually an informed meeting.
We all have been busy.  Pat and Larry moved from FL to AL, they are now a little closer to us.  I have been busy crocheting chemo hats to give back.  I found they do not take long to make and I love doing something for others.  Cathy has been busy with work and helping a friend out selling Mary Kay.  Rebecca has been taking care of family over the holidays that had surgery.  Al are well now.
We have invited people to join us, but not had any luck.  We post our schedule on bulletin boards to entice people and word of mouth.  For Valentine's we had a Valentine door prize and a special homemade products handout for fun.  How to save money on some cleaning products, like laundry soap, dish washing soap, oven cleaners, etc...  We had a good gathering.
We are looking forward to the nursing Confrence in may at Montgomery.  Hope everyone that comes has a safe trip.  We know we will all have a  GOOD time!  Until then, have a happy and healthy year.

Sincerely,
Celeste Gabbrielli, LPN

Everything seems to be going ok with Chapter 24.  We have some members with illness in their families, but they seem to be improving.  Thanks for allowing us to donate school supplies to the Hackleburg schools after the tornadoes.
We are sorry to report that one of our former members ~ Mildred Patterson ~ passed away in November.
We have no new members to report.  Hope to see you at the March board meeting.
